Thornley Woodlands Centre Visit

Year 3 children had a very exciting day at Thornley Woodlands Centre. They saw a fox, several squirrels, Magpies, Jays and numerous other types of birds whilst looking out from the special hide into the woodland.

Here are several members of the class looking carefully and keeping quiet to make sure they don't frighten the animals.

As part of the visit the children also investigated the different life found in ponds. Each group had two nets and children took it in turns to dip their nets into the pond and turn out the contents into a tray filled with pond water. We found all sorts of interesting life including Dragonfly and Mayfly Larvae, Water Boatmen, Pond Skaters, Water Fleas and Water Mites. There were far too many to count but we gave it a good go!

We also had great fun completing a discovery trail, which helped us to improve our map reading skills and find out new things about seeds and the plants they come from.
