During African Week we were visited by Heather and Colin who told us all about the Mercy Ships. A global charity that operates a fleet of hospital ships in developing nations to promote health and well-being. It does this by serving the urgent surgical needs of the people. The Anastasis and the African Mercy ships serve the poor countries in Africa helping to give the people who live there a better quality of life.

I think that children’s learning about life in the third world is a wonderful idea, as it ensures they are aware of the differences between their life in the UK and children in Africa. They now understand how other children live, and have learned that children should have rights no matter where they are.
Having visitors from Mercy Ship speak to pupils has given them a real insight into the work being done to support children in Africa, and has resulted in the children at Bill Quay thinking about what can be done in the future to help children in developing nations.
