This year, Michael and Thomas from Year 5, represented the Gateshead area in the Regional finals of the Junior Engineers for Britain Knex Challenge 'The Big Bang Event' at Sunderland University on 1st July 2009. The children were set the challenge of designing a hanger made from Knex to house a super turbo car, a workshop, accommodation for 20 crew and a lifting mechanism to open the hanger door. The model was then judged by Engineers Employers Federation judges and tested on its strength, frame and special features. The overall winners were Santiago Dubov and Shelden Marshall from Roseberry Primary School. The children also got the opportunity to meet Dr John Kilcoyne and Jon Tickle who star in Sky TV's Braniac Show.
Well Done to both Michael and Thomas who made us proud!
