SEN Policy

It is the policy of Bill Quay Primary School to actively encourage the involvement of staff, pupils and parents in the education of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

The learning difficulties, which these children may have, are assessed and provided for in a variety of ways. The children have the opportunity to develop to their full potential with the guidance and support of their class teacher, the SEN Coordinator, outreach teaching staff and the SEN Support Staff and Advisors.

The school aims to provide for all the needs of the child whilst encouraging integration in class and school activities. This policy describes in detail the procedures and systems which have been established for meeting the objectives of providing an integrated education for all children with special educational needs, whilst aiming to provide the entitlement of access to a full and balanced curriculum, including the National Curriculum.

English Policy

This policy reflects the values and philosophy of Bill Quay School in relation to the teaching and learning of English. It gives a framework to which all staff, teaching and non-teaching, work. It gives guidance on planning, teaching and assessment. This policy is intended to be used in conjunction with the National Literacy Strategy which gives details of what pupils in each age group will cover.

Anti-bullying Policy

Bill Quay Primary School is committed to creating a safe environment where young people can learn and socialise freely and without fear. Bullying is unacceptable behaviour. It happens in all schools and many normal young people are involved at some time in either using bullying behaviours, being bullied by others or witnessing bullying. We believe that bullying is often a group phenomenon. It often takes place with the silent consent of onlookers

Behavour and Discipline Policy

This policy is a statement of the principles, aims and strategies for the management of behaviour. It is intended to act as a reference point and to inform teachers, parents, governors, LEA officers and inspectors. This policy was reviewed on February 2005 through a process of consultation with teachers, non-teaching staff, pupils and parents.

Mathematics Policy

This policy outlines what we are trying to achieve in respect of pupils’ mathematical education. It also describes our agreed approach to the planning, delivery and assessment of the mathematics’ curriculum. The mathematics taught and the methods used reflect the recommendations outlined in the DfEE guidance contained in the documents:
(A) Curriculum guidance for the Foundation Stage
(B) Framework for Teaching Mathematics from Reception to Year 6

It provides information and guidance for teachers, governors and other interested persons.

Sex and Relationships Policy

This policy has been written following DfES Guidelines ‘Sex and Relationship Guidance 0116/2000. A working party of the PSCHE Co-ordinator and Headteacher agreed the draft policy, which was presented to the staff for their comments. Parents were involved in the consultation process. This policy was then presented to the full governing Body for approval.

Confidentiality Policy

Aim and objectives of the policy
• To provide a clear school confidentiality policy which everyone including pupils, parents and carers know, understand and work within – is a vital part of meeting pupil’s welfare needs as required by the Education Act (2002).
• To provide a clear and consistent message for pupils, staff, parents / carers and visitors about confidentiality in school.
 • To provide guidance about who needs to know what – in particular instances.
 • To respect every individuals right to privacy.

Marking and Feedback Policy

Improving learning through assessment is aided by the provision of effective and constructive marking and feedback to every child. It focuses on success and improvement and enables children to become reflective learners. Marking and feedback is an important aspect of the formative assessment of individual children’s progress and achievements and aids the setting of future programmes of study and targets. It enables teachers to identify and share with children what they need to do in order to improve their performance.

Annual Report of the Governors 2004-2005

The Governors of Bill Quay Primary School hope that the contents of this report will be of assistance to parents of all children attending the school.

The intention of this report is to make parents aware as to how the Governors, the Head Teacher and the Local Education Authority have discharged their duties.

It is also intended to present information appertaining to the Governors, staff and the school in general, which may be of interest to parents.
