Our guitarists have learnt lots of new chords this term!
Year 1 Music: Exploring Instruments, Sounds and Rhythms
Year 1 enjoyed exploring the timbre of different percussion instruments, and they created some of their own rhythms using long and short sounds as well as singing beautifully. They also listened to music and recorded their responses.
Year 2 have experimented with rhythm and both tuned and untuned percussion instruments. They have created sound sentences, and have selected and organised sounds to accompany songs.
Year 3 have been exploring percussive sounds within the context of Aboriginal music, and created some group compositions in that style using an OSTINATO.
Our Year 3 composers, hard at work
Listen to some of their work ...
Year 3 pupils have also selected and organised sounds to create a sound palette to accompany the story of 'The Rainbow Serpent'.
Year 4 pupils have been studying music from Germany and Scandinavia. Here they are learning how to play the theme from Grieg's 'Morning' on the glockenspiel.
Year 4 listened to Wagner's 'Dance of the Valkyries' and examined how he used a 'musical slide' in the piece. They then worked in groups to compose a short piece using a musical slide on the guitar and glockenspiel, and then added in a repeated rhythm (ostinato) and a simple melody using some tuned hand bells. Listen to some of their creations!
Year 5 have been practising some Samba rhythms. Listen to one of our rehearsals!
