Enrichment

We love music at Bill Quay Primary School! As well as our music-making in lessons, we take advantage of any opportunities to experience and enjoy music. As part of our extra-curricular programme, we run a school choir, and always enjoy taking part in the Spring Sing at The Glasshouse, which is organised in partnership with the North East Music Hub. Our choir also enjoys singing in the community, including for local older community groups, and by supporting local charity fund-raising efforts. We currently have more than 35%of KS2 pupils in our school choir. We also love our visits each year from the Gateshead Music Hub band for a roadshow performance!

We offer small-group guitar lessons and individual piano tuition for KS2 pupils within the school day, and currently have more than 25% of all KS2 pupils learning either guitar or piano, which we are very excited about. We also offer small-group brass lessons in partnership with Gateshead Music Service, and currently have thirteen pupils from Years 4-6 learning to play a range of brass instruments. Together, they have formed our very own Bill Quay Brass Band! Some of our pupils also learn instruments outside of school. We encourage our instrumentalists to perform for other pupils in school wherever possible. We celebrate all of our musical abilities each year in a Spring Music Showcase at a local secondary school and finish off the school year with a full-length musical show in July.
