Year 4 had a fantastic day yesterday at Jarrow Hall learning all about Anglo-Saxon farming techniques and day-to-day life. In the morning they got the chance to explore a variety of Anglo-Saxon style buildings, look at artefacts and see the different types of animals they kept. Inside the main Anglo-Saxon hall they sat around an open fire and told stories and riddles just like the Anglo-Saxons would have done. They saw how they made biscuits on the open fire and of course sampled them too! In the afternoon they investigated the materials and skills used by Anglo-Saxons in textiles and did some weaving. At the end of the day they examined and practiced using Anglo-Saxon weaponry and armour to re-enact the battle of Brunanburh. They really enjoyed their visit and can't wait to go back and visit again!!
