Year 5 visit Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens

Year 5 visited Sunderland Winter Gardens to find out more about our current Science topic, flowering plants.  Jennie, from the Educational team at the museum, told us about the different types of plants in the garden, how they are watered and the ingenious way that pests are controlled.  After a fascinating trail around the garden (which was very hot and humid in the bright sunshine!), we examined different types of seed, including the largest seed in the world and a seed activated by fire.  Finally, we planted a pea seed to take back to school for use in germination investigations.
