Governing Body

Bill Quay's Governing Body has three key responsibilities:

  • To ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • To hold the Head Teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;
  • To oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent.

Our Governing Body exists to be a 'critical friend' to the school and governors act on a voluntary basis. We meet as a Full Governing Body once each term. We have two main committees: the Curriculum and Standards Committee looks at various matters, including what is being taught across all subjects, attendance, safeguarding and what might be improved across Teaching and Learning, while the Resources Committee mainly considers finance, staffing, and health and safety. These two committees also meet once a term, although they can meet more often should the need arise. A selection of governors sits on each committee, and you can find out more about the committee membership below. There are other committees too, which meet as required - information on those can also be found below.

We currently have twelve governor positions, including the Head Teacher. Two of those positions are reserved for elected parent governors, and one for an elected staff governor. Another position is reserved for a Local Authority appointee. The remaining seven positions are co-opted posts, and each term of office lasts for four years, except for that of the Head Teacher, which is a permanent position. Our Chair and Vice-Chairs are elected by the Full Governing Body, and each serve a two-year term before re-election is needed. As well as attending meetings, we enjoy visiting the school regularly so that we can really understand what it means to be part of the Bill Quay Primary School family, and to experience for ourselves the excellent activities and positive ethos which the school provides.
